Pre-University Science Course – Laboratory Techniques

Certificate in Laboratory Techniques QQI Level 5 (5M3807)

This course has been designed to meet the needs of a variety of students wishing to study Science, specifically those who did not satisfy the entry requirements for direct entry to a degree course, and adult returnees to education.

Students who pass all modules including course practical work (the pass mark in each subject is 50%) may be eligible for entry to a variety of Level 7 and 8 degree courses in Universities nationwide.

Course Content

Our Pre-University Science students will be timetabled for the core and elective modules listed below. A presentation will be made during induction in September on the process of choosing elective modules.

Elective Modules:

  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Environmental Studies
  • Infection Prevention and Control

Entry Requirements

The following are requirements for entry to the Pre-University Science Laboratory Techniques course:

  • Either:
    • Leaving Cert – an O5 grade in Mathematics
    • Leaving Cert Applied – a Distinction grade (85-100%)
    • Full QQI L4 award or equivalent

Applicants may be accepted without meeting formal entry requirements, depending on prior learning and/or experience. Mature students are also welcome to apply.
