Dry Ice Theatre Production Company presents “Katzenmusik”, A darkly comic story about social inequality and upheaval, told in reverse. A viral video, a company capitalising on fear, prank calls, class divide and a cat memorial. The increasing income gap between rich and poor has pushed the residents of Burnside Town to breaking point.”

“Haiku” Art Exhibition – Raheny Campus, Thursday March 21st
A small exhibition of works from the Advanced Art Course will take place in our Raheny campus on Thursday, March 21st. Anyone is welcome to attend this event which opens in the campus reception 12pm.
“Haiku” is inspired by the Japanese style poem of seventeen syllables. The works, seek to express emotionally suggestive moments of insight into nature.
This exhibition comprises part of the painting, drawing and work experience modules for this QQI Level 6 course. The full-time Advanced Art Award allows participants to explore and develop their own artistic style. Applications for September are open now.

CDCFE Science Lab unveils new Autoclave Machine
The Science Department at CDCFE were delighted to unveil their new Autoclave Machine this week. The autoclave uses steam and high pressure to sterilise equipment, reagents and waste. It is essential kit for the Pre-university Microbiology, Laboratory Techniques and DCU access courses. The item replaces the outdated and pungent predecessors responsible for the “smell of science” on the ground floor.
The Autoclave has been nicknamed “The Tina Machine” in honour of our office administrator Martina Maher, who was an integral part of the long process in securing the equipment. Martina’s trademark patience endured through two years of logistical issues, resulting in her being given the honor of cutting the ribbon for the Tina Machine’s inaugural run.

National Hairdressing Apprenticeship at CDCFE Capstone Event
Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education celebrated the first completers of their National Hairdressing Apprenticeship this week at a ceremony hosted by RTE’s Nuala Carey.
Eight graduates of the NHA at CDCFE showcased their final work at the capstone event which was held in Fallon & Byrne, Dublin.
The Apprenticeship graduates have been studying hairdressing for three years, working both in professional hair salons and in CDCFE’s Kilbarrack campus salon “Cabello”. With a mix of on and off the job experience, the apprentices were able to “earn while they learn”.
The apprenticeship graduates now join the ranks of fully qualified hairdressers, recognised both in Ireland and internationally.
The event was attended by mentoring hair salons such as Zeba and Cats Hair Salon, as well as delegates from the City of Dublin ETB and the National Hairdressing Apprenticeship steering group.

SCC Public Speaking Competition Prizewinner
Congratulations to CDCFE Media Production Student Sayed Farid who was a prizewinner in the SCC Public Speaking Competition.
Sayed, who is an Afghan national, came in second place in the student competition which took place in the Teacher’s club.
The City of Dublin ETB Sports and Cultural Council coordinates a range of student activities across its 26 colleges and schools. It celebrates learners in sporting and cultural pursuits.

CDCFE Animation Student Nominated for Animation Dingle Award
Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education are delighted to congratulate Animation student Colin Reddin on his nomination in the Irish Student category at Animation Dingle for his film “Lab Mouse”.
Colin is a graduate of the Higher National Diploma (HND) Animation programme at CDCFE and is currently studying a level 8 Honours BA degree in Animation at Coláiste Dhúlaigh, accredited by University of Wolverhampton.
Lab Mouse is a quirky depiction of the life of a mischievous test mouse. Best of luck Colin!

Keyframe 10 – Animation Industry talks at CDCFE
The Animation department at Coláiste Dhúlaigh CFE hosted Keyframe10 this week. The event which is in its tenth year, was held in CDCFE’s Coolock campus, where award-winning professionals from the Animation industry gave talks and workshops to students.
Jam Media’s Jessica Patterson gave a talk on her work as director of the Oscar 2024 nominated short film “Worry World”. Other speakers at the event included Tom Getty, co-founder of Taunt Studios in Belfast who produce animated shorts in the Irish and English language for the BBC and Channel 5. Neev Brennan from Boulder media spoke about her work as a concept artist.
CDCFE graduate Amy Byrne who worked on the hit show Rick & Morty and is now a compositor with Boulder Media also spoke at Keyframe10. Children’s book illustrator Estrella Lourenco gave an address about her various roles both as a freelancer as well as working on Danger Mouse with Boulder Media. The event concluded with Patrick O’Callaghan, Art Team Manager at “Story Toys” App company based in Dublin.
Principal of Coláiste Dhúlaigh CFE, Patricia O’Brien Brennan, commented “Keyframe is such a useful and important annual event for our students, where they get the opportunity to gain valuable advice and information from industry professionals. We are immensely proud of the Animation course at CDCFE which produces industry-prepared graduates year on year”

Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education will hold an Information Evening in the Coolock campus from 4pm- 7pm on Tuesday 12th March.

This makeup course will run for eight weeks and is aimed at students of all ages. You will be introduced to skin care routines and basic make up applications. The course will focus on how to utilize your make-up collection and maintain your brushes. You will also be shown how to go from a daytime make-up look to an evening make-up look including eyelash application.

CDCFE are now enrolling for over 70 courses that we offer across our three campuses in Coolock, Raheny and Kilbarrack. Coláiste Dhúlaigh CFE has over ten departments including Computing, Nursing, Health & Social Sciences, Media & Animation, Art & Design, Outdoor Education, Science & Technology, Performing Arts, Hairdressing, Business and more. Most course fees are €50 for the 2024 academic year.
If a Leaving Certificate student does not get the required CAO points for their preferred choice, then completing a PLC course at Coláiste Dhúlaigh CFE is a sensible option as we have excellent progression routes into university.
If you are simply unsure of what you want to study after Leaving Certificate, PLC courses are an affordable way to test out subject areas. There are many different reasons why students are now choosing PLC courses, which are becoming increasing popular and have just a €50 registration fee.
Post Leaving Certificate Courses at Coláiste Dhúlaigh CFE are available at QQI Levels 4, 5 and 6 as well as Higher National Diplomas (HNDs), Apprenticeships, Traineeships and Level 8 BA degrees, accredited by University of Wolverhampton. Student supports and SUSI grants are available for eligible students.

Performing Arts Students at Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education present “Past Presents & Raging Mad Reindeer”
Dry Ice Theatre Company presents “Past, Presents and Raging Mad Reindeer”, a collection of pieces by first and second year students from the Performing Arts course at Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education. The show takes place in the Sean O’Casey Theatre, East Wall, on the Thursday 7th and Friday 8th of December at 7.30pm.
With stand-up comedy, singing and plenty of Christmas pandemonium in between, “Past, Presents and Raging Mad Reindeer” promises to give everyone the laugh that’s needed at this time of year.
The show kicks off with “What’s beyond”, a script that was created and devised by first year students which will bring the audience on a trip down memory lane.
“Regifted”, a short play directed and performed by second year drama students is set in an office at Christmas time. Don’t say you haven’t done it before. But what’s in the box??
All are welcome to attend this event. Admission is complimentary, but donations are gratefully accepted.

“Paws from Ukraine” – a charity calendar in aid of the Irish Blue Cross by Entrepreneurship Students at CDCFE
Students from the Entrepreneurship/Start your Own Business Course at Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education, have cooperated to create and launch the “PawsFromUkraine” fundraising calendar in aid of the Blue Cross.
This calendar is a curated selection of photographs that showcases the inspiring stories of some 600 Ukranian families and their much-loved dogs, many of whom risked their own lives to escape the ravages of war in Ukraine and find refuge in Ireland. The photographs within reflect on the incredibly unique bond that exists between families and their canine companions.
This series of photographs, captured by Entrepreneurship students, Charlie Murphy and Mariia Koshyrenkova tells a unique story. Each month highlights the strength and courage it has taken these families to overcome adversity. Charlie and Mariia travelled the length and breadth of Ireland to meet with these families and their pets and hear their courageous and inspiring stories.
The “Paws from Ukraine” calendar is a testament to the resilience of these families and their loyal companions, capturing the spirit of hope, unity, and the enduring human-animal bond. Through a series of heart-warming photographs, each month tells a unique story, highlighting the journey taken to gain refuge. The calendar will be supported by a documentary and Photograph book detailing each of the participants stories.
Proceeds from the calendar will be directed towards supporting the invaluable work of the Blue Cross, an organisation dedicated to providing essential veterinary care and support for pets in need. The funds raised will contribute to the Blue Cross’s ongoing efforts to ensure that all animals, regardless of their origin, receive the care and attention they deserve.
“We are immensely proud of our students at Coláiste Dhúlaigh for their compassion, creativity, and commitment to making this project work” said Sharon McIlvenna, Entrepreneurship Course Tutor at CDCFE. “The ‘Paws from Ukraine’ calendar not only serves as a beautiful tribute to the human-pet bond but also plays a crucial role in supporting those who have experienced the hardships of war.”

Now in its fourth year, this course has been a successful hub for Entrepreneurs. The program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the business and marketing fundamentals needed to start their own business.

Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education Celebrates Science Week with Professor Luke O’Neill
Professor Luke O’Neill delivered a guest lecture at Coláiste Dhúlaigh’s Coolock campus to coincide with Science Week. The renowned immunologist spoke to students from the science and media departments at CDCFE about his career route, his purpose or “Ikigai”, including his important discoveries in healthcare that are now being trialed by pharmaceutical multinational Roche.
The Professor, who is currently a resident lecturer and researcher at Trinity College Dublin, recounted his early published papers on Crohn’s disease as well as more recent discoveries in immunology through his company Inflazome, which was purchased by Roche in 2020 for €380m.
Speaking about his position as President of the Irish Science Teacher’s Association, O’Neill said he would like to see more focus on STEM subjects the school curriculum. He spoke passionately about careers in the sciences, encouraging the students in attendance to consider science as a profession.
Media Department Head at CDCFE, Denise O’Connor said “we were delighted to welcome Professor Luke O’Neill to Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education. Guest lectures like these enhance the learning experience for our students and highlight the important role CDCFE plays in providing courses where they can access progression routes into university”.

New Traineeship in Logistics with Forklift Licence
Coláiste Dhúlaigh CFE are now taking applications for a Traineeship in Logistics with Forklift Licence. The course will commence on the 21st November and run for 30 weeks. It s a QQI part-award that provides Forklift Truck licence, Manual Handling and First Aid Responder training. Participants will do a practical 15 week work placement with our industry partners.

Coláiste Dhúlaigh CFE offers over 70 Post Leaving Certificate Courses, ranging from Animation to Art Portfolio, Barbering to Business, Psychology to Science, Engineering to Outdoor Education etc. We offer courses at QQI Levels 4, 5 & 6, Traineeships, Apprenticeships, Entrepreneurships and Level Eight BA Hons Degrees in Drama, Animation, and Film Production.
Prospective students do not need to register for this event, just come on the day. Applicants do not need CAO points to study with us, just a willingness to learn. Our disability support and guidance counselling services will be on hand to answer any questions about learner supports and funding. You will also be able to find out about our Erasmus+ foreign placement opportunities.
Coláiste Dhúlaigh CFE offers excellent progression routes to university. Many of our courses are one-year long and lead directly to a college place through CAO. Beat exam stress with continuous assessment and let our tutors share their academic and industry experience with you.

Who is it for? The Student Transitions Peer Support Group is specifically designed for autistic adults who are navigating through a time of change. This group is for students who have started at any college, PLC course or university in Ireland in 2023. This group is here to lend you a helping hand.
When and Where? The group will meet biweekly on Thursday evenings, with the first session scheduled for 26th of October at 6-7pm. Thanks to the power of technology, we will gather online via Zoom, allowing participants from all across Ireland to connect and engage. CDCFE Tutor Derek Turner wins big in Building and Architect of the Year Awards 2023
Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education are delighted to announce that their Building Information Modelling (BIM) tutor, Derek Turner, has won in the Building & Architect of the Year Awards 2023.
Turner, along with the team at JCA Architects, won the awards in two categories for their work on Primark Belfast – The Bank buildings, for Best Use of Digital Technology and the Multi-Discipline Collaboration Achievement. The Primark building was a complex BIM project that ultimately resulted in a signature building.
Derek delivers the Revit Modelling and BIM Processes modules on CDCFE’s evening BIM with Project Management course. The programme, which is delivered online by industry professionals, is designed to upskill people working in the construction area, or anyone who wants to advance in BIM.

Industry experience for Fashion Design & Styling course
The Fashion Design & Styling course at CDCFE has an exciting schedule of events lined up this term. Students will help assist backstage at Louise Kennedy’s 40th Anniversary show in Dublin, a milestone event for the fashion designer.
Students on the QQI level 5 & 6 course will also take part in The Gloss fashion show in the RDS in November. This gives students a first-hand glimpse at the skills required to work in the fashion industry. Participants on the course, which is part of the art and design department at CDCFE, learn skills needed to make garments and will also gain work experience in many more fashion events throughout the year, including running their own fashion show at year end.
Course coordinator Sarjit Verik says “it’s great for our students to attend these events as they provide valuable learning experiences for our students. Coordinating shows and working with various designers can provide students with hands-on experience and insight into the world of fashion production”.
Earlier in the year CDCFE Fashion course graduate Nicole Mbenza’s garment was featured in Peter Mark’s summer campaign. Peter Mark required a unique vibrant garment to showcase new hairstyles for Summer 2023 advertising campaign for Ireland.

8-Week Evening Courses – Starting 3rd October
Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education are offering 8-week evening courses, starting on 3rd October. Courses take place in our Coolock campus from 7-9pm.
Choose from Interior Design, Drawing, Makeup & Beauty or Special Needs Assistant (SNA). The SNA course cost €199 for one QQI Level 5 module. CDCFE will also have a Pilates class from 6-7pm for just €70.
*Please note that the SNA course commences on 26th September

Career Guidance Drop-In Service
Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education will be running a career guidance drop-in service for the first week of September. There is no need to make an appointment, simply call in to our Coolock campus between 10am-2pm daily.
This service is designed for Post Leaving Cert students who are in need of advice around their next steps, or anyone else considering taking a course at CDCFE this year. Appointments with our guidance counsellors are strictly confidential and are centered around helping prospective students with their decision-making process.

3 – New students with a health issue, learning support need or a disability are asked to register with the Disability and Learning Support service in the college at Student Support Registration Form. If you have already registered there is no need to complete this form again.
To speed up your registration process you can Login to your enrol college account and complete the Learner Detail Form before registration.
Start of Classes
All classes will start from September 25th.
*Please note that course offers are conditional on students meeting the minimum course entry requirements. Please ensure you check the course website page for details of the specific requirements for your course. If English is not your first language, an English Language Test may be required. If you are a mature student i.e over 21 and in receipt of social welfare for over 6 months, you may be eligible for VTOS. This means that you can keep your Social Welfare payments and course charges are waived. For further information please contact michelle.culligan@cdcfe.cdetb.ie as soon as possible. Non-EU students must comply with Irish Immigration requirements. A visa from the Immigration Section of the Department of Justice & Equality must be secured prior to commencing course. Non-EU students will be required to pay a tuition fee.
New Traineeship in TV & Film Production at Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education
Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education are delighted to announce that applications are now open for an exciting new Traineeship in TV & Film Production. This course is designed for anyone who dreams of a career in the media.
The Traineeship is a QQI Level 6 course and participants will learn the skills required to work on live tv & film productions in a realistic setting. Practical classes take place in CDCFE’s Coolock campus and students will also do a work placement with a media partner. Trainees on this course will have the opportunity to learn skills such as editing, radio production, camera & lighting and much more.
Applicants for this fast-paced course should ideally have a QQI level 5 qualification in a media related field, or relevant experience. The course is fully funded and will provide the skills required to gain employment in an expanding media sector.
Dillon Adams is a graduate of CDCFE who now wants to pursue a career in media. “I tend to remember things better through hands-on learning. I also want to build my connections in the film and media industry to potentially secure a full-time job. For these reasons I have chosen to apply to the media traineeship.”
