Youth Activities Worker Course (part-time)

Certificate in Youth Work QQI Level 5 (5M4732) – 2 Years Part-time course

BTEI means Back to Education Initiative. BTEI gives those in receipt of social welfare the opportunity of returning to part time education, while retaining their benefits.
For those not in receipt of a social welfare payment there will be a course charge of €50.

This innovative two-year part time BTEI course examines the provision of youth work. It aims to give training, up-skilling and confidence to learners, enabling them to take up meaningful employment in youth services, and/or to progress to further or higher education.

The course will examine the history, policy, theory, and practice of youth work in Ireland. It will explore how young people interact with contemporary society, with a particular focus on designing and delivering meaningful and appropriate activities to diverse groups. Learners are facilitated to explore a variety of activities, including activities in their own particular areas of interest, as well as in the outdoors, to better understand the special role youth activities have in improving outcomes for young people.

The course will enable students to gain a critical awareness of the way in which youth work operates and how this can be supported through a variety of targeted activities. Learners are also enabled to reflect on their own self-awareness, their social, interpersonal and intercultural awareness, and their communication skills, all of which are central to being a role model for young people and to meeting young people where they are at.
